Vegetable Gardening at The Kentucky Castle
Gardening is a very popular hobby and lifestyle that has been getting a positive spotlight recently. There are so many benefits to growing your own food; it saves you money, you know exactly where your food is coming from, gives you an excuse to get outside, promotes healthy eating, and so much more. At the castle we want to ensure we are giving our guests the absolute best when it comes to both taste and nutrition. Over the next couple of months we will be tenderly caring for the plants that will produce delicious foods for our visitors and guests.
When not eating our farm fresh food, why not eat your own? By growing your own food you are cutting down on the trips you take to the store and you’re not spending money on items that can get very pricey, especially fresh items. When you grow your own food you know exactly where it comes from and what has come into contact with it. If you are cautious about pesticide use and everything that comes along with that you can alleviate that stress by growing food yourself.
Eating healthy and living a healthy life are sometimes topics we tend to avoid or say we will get around to doing but never really do. When you have a garden or grow a few fruits or vegetables you are choosing an activity that is both enjoyable and accomplishes the goal of living in a more healthy way. When you are planting and caring for your plants you are getting exercise and once you consume your harvest you are eating healthier.
Come visit our restaurant and gardens. We would love to encourage and inspire others to think about starting a small garden or even just having a few planters on a patio or in an apartment. Another alternative is going to local Farmers’ Markets to get produce and other goods. You will be eating healthier and supporting local farmers and their families! We just happen to be hosting Woodford County’s Wednesday Farmer’s Market starting this Wednesday, June 6th. It will be from 3pm-6pm every Wednesday for the next few months.
If you can’t make it out to the castle on Wednesdays you can find a Farmers’ Market near you using the following link: https://www.ams.usda.gov/local-food-directories/farmersmarkets
